Haley Tarling, LPC

About me:

My name is Haley, and I am a licensed professional counselor who also wears the hats of teacher, choreographer and dancer.  I bring experience from all of these hats into the therapy room.  My highest priority is to create a space that is safe, and flexible to what the person sitting across from me needs at the present moment.

I received my masters degree from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Counseling Psychology, and was recognized as a distinguished graduate upon completion. I spent time providing mental health services at Anixter Center, which included work with a variety of individuals and therapy groups.

My work in community mental health gave me the opportunity to adapt my therapeutic style to align with differing psychological presentations within a high level care environment.

This environment provided members with support, hope and resources.  I have a background as a dance teacher as well, having taught kids from age four through eighteen, and having facilitated choreographic processes with adults aged 19-35.

I take an empathic, compassionate approach to therapy by utilizing a feminist and person-centered approach to counseling. I incorporate grounding skills and meditation into my practice to foster somatic and emotional regulation.

Approach to Treatment

My commitment is to  create a space that respects what has brought a person to the present moment, and to validate the individual and collective experiences, cultural identities and beliefs that have built them.  I also have come to believe that regardless of its size, we are living in a world that adds trauma and hurt to our journeys, and that these things don’t often have enough space to be released.

I find that an orientation that is always trauma informed and person centered, while also drawing from motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, CBT, DBT, IFS and somatic based interventions, aligns with this. I specialize in supporting people as they work through anxiety, depression, trauma, stress/worry, grief, and other psychological struggles such as schizophrenia and mood disorders. I value the client’s expertise on their life, and what they hope to get out of therapy; it is my intention to be a source of support in your journey towards stability, clarity and fulfillment.
